A Bit About Me

Always hustling, occasionally funny, I prefer a good game of basketball with friends. I live by Peter Drucker's philosophy - "The best way to predict the future is to create it."

Why entrepreneurship?

Born into a typical Gujarati family, hailing from probably the most backward Tier 1 city in India - Kolkata. Gujjus are brilliant at saving money and love to do business. I have grown up seeing my father starting a business in early 1990s with Rs. 60,000 he loaned from my grand father. Back then it was a lot of money!

My father is fairly wealthy now and earned a reputation for himself in his business and social circles. So I can proudly say I have been gifted with all the comfort one needs in their lives. However, during school days I was constantly reminded:

  • If you don't study hard and lack multiple degrees, you will not be respected in the society.

  • Father's business is here to stay. Try and build something of your own without worrying about failure.

  • If you cannot 'at least' double your wealth every 5 years, don't be in that business.

I guess entrepreneurship comes naturally to you when you talk about ideas, wealth and doubling money in your teens.

growing up

Parents spending on our education is a big bet they take on us. Very, very long term investment and no certainty of any returns. Knowing that, they made sure I got quality education from the best institutions in town.

I was fairly studious and in most classes I would emerge in the Top 5. But more than that I loved to lead - been fortunate to be trusted with various leadership positions. Always been passionate about participating in sports, debates, poetry, cultural and inter-school events - this taught me the values of being a team man.

Stepping out of school was like popping out of your nest. You become a part of a fiercely competitive race called "SUCCESS". You are on your own and to be safe just follow the herd. So did I, as if it's scripted that a commerce graduate should ideally pursue CA / CS / CFA / FRM / CMA or even all of it.

I was 23, making 5,000 per month as an articled trainee and studying hard for CA Finals. But I wasn't happy - not even the slightest bit.

ENTREPRENEURIAL STINT

Life took a turn in 2015. Encapsulated it into a 5 minute read with lessons I learnt along the way! Currently, building 365veda - a D2C brand to help 160M+ working millennials make healthier life more sustainable with scientifically developed Ayurvedic superfoods.

PHILOSOPHY

Life's best lessons are learnt in times of crisis. As we grow, these lessons take the shape of one's philosophy. They define every action.

This is why everyone lives by a certain set of principles and they are unique to that individual.

Hoping some of these have a positive impact in your life too!

  • The more you listen, the wiser you become.

  • There is something positive about everyone, absorb it.

  • Never underestimate anyone. Not even yourself.

  • Do not hesitate to talk about failures. Blabbering about success attracts envy.

  • Be kind to Nature. You have already exploited it enough by mere existence.

  • When all else fails, there is family!
